A country style bean soup combining the rich flavor of ham and the subtle flavor found in navy beans. Just add ham, tomatoes and water. A precooked freeze-dried whole bean provides a hearty meal in minutes. No soaking needed.
Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil. Stir in soup and seasoning packs. Add 2 cups ham and a 15 oz. can of tomatoes. Let soup cook approximately 20-25 minutes or until rice is done. Yield:
Soup will be even richer if you have the time to simmer a ham bone or the 2 cups of ham in the 3 quarts of water for about 30 minutes prior to adding soup packet. You may also substitute tomatoes with green chilies or flavored tomatoes for a zestier flavor. Serve with your favorite cornbread.
