Soup will be even richer if you have the time to simmer a ham bone or the 2 cups of ham in the 3 quarts of water for about 30 minutes prior to adding soup packet. You may also substitute Rotel tomatoes or flavored tomatoes for a zestier flavor. Serve with your favorite cornbread.

Best soup ever! I also add baby spinach. I have received so many compliments each time I serve this.

Tried this soup at a winter fair in Ohio, and was sold from the first taste. I simmered my smoked ham in the water/stock before adding the mix and really didn't add anything else (except the tomatoes). Wow, really a perfect blend of ingredients and spices. Hearty and wonderful. I can't get enough of this yummy soup!

We love this soup! This and the vaquero are our two favorites. I simemred ham in half chicken broth and half water for 30 mintues as suggested and it really made it rich and tasty.
